As one of the largest private employers in Stockholm and operating the metro subway, MTR serves millions of passengers every year. Keeping a high service level and making sure everything is running smoothly comes down to the hard-working staff of MTR.
Being able to attract vast numbers of candidates is a huge strength in all personnel-intensive businesses, and MTR has a strong employer brand as the backbone of their talent acquisition function. This helps to draw the attention of thousands of job applicants every month. So many, in fact, that the work going into evaluating applications consumed a major part of everyday tasks for the recruiters in the TA team. Maintaining the strong employer brand, and digitizing parts of the process to be faster and more automated while increasing the candidate quality, has always been high on MTR’s agenda.
After first identifying Hubert as a solution to enable instant interviews and a structured evaluation of every candidate, MTR realized that they could keep both quality and candidate experience at a high level and made the decision to test the system in action. Hubert was quickly added to volume processes and now greets all candidates in a quick chat-based screening interview that takes place as soon as they’ve clicked the apply button.
The interview with the virtual recruitment assistant Hubert consists of a mix of open- and closed-ended interview questions that give all candidates a unique chance to tell their own story.
As soon as the interview is completed, the responses are interpreted, analyzed, and automatically scored using a meticulous AI engine. High-scoring candidates are shortlisted and highlighted for recruiters.
Evaluating their first testing period, MTR measured a considerably faster time-to-hire. All candidates are evaluated on the same criteria — no name, age, looks, or other irrelevant aspects — guaranteeing a more inclusive process. MTR also attributes Hubert as a key tool in achieving the annual hiring goals, which previously were hard to meet.
Additionally, recruiters don’t need to spend time on CV screening and phone interviews for candidates who don’t fit the basic requirements for the role. As a result, Hubert has led to time savings of around 85% compared to the previous process.
Since the collaboration started, Hubert now helps recruitment teams within customer service, facility management, in-train personnel, and more.
